Shraddha & Tarpan Pooja

Shraddha & Tarpan Pooja

A Timeless Ritual to Express Gratitude, Seek Blessings, and Cleanse Karmic Debts

In Sanatan Dharma, Shraddha is not just a ritual—it’s an offering of love, gratitude, and responsibility toward those who came before us. It is believed that even after death, the soul maintains a subtle connection with the family, and when remembered with sincerity and devotion, they bless us from beyond.

Tarpan, which literally means “to satisfy,” is the ritual of offering water, sesame seeds, and mantras to satisfy and uplift the souls of our ancestors. Together, Shraddha and Tarpan act as a bridge—between generations, between the living and the departed, and between karma and peace.

At Moksh Dham, we help you perform these rituals correctly, as per Vedic vidhi, because when done right, they purify your lineage, remove Pitru Dosha, and invite lasting peace and blessings.

And if you’re going through financial challenges, we’ll still perform the Shraddha Pooja free of cost, with complete respect and authenticity.

Who Should Perform Shraddha & Tarpan?

How the Ritual Is Performed

You Don't Need Wealth to Remember Your Ancestors

If you’re unable to afford the expenses of a full Shraddha Pooja, we’ll still conduct it for you.
Because no soul should remain hungry for prayers, and no child should be stopped from fulfilling their dharma due to money.

Frequently Asked Question

What is the difference between Shraddha and Tarpan?

Tarpan is the water-based offering with mantras for the soul’s satisfaction. Shraddha involves full offerings of food and prayers to honor and uplift the departed.

  • Every year on the tithi (lunar date) of the death
  • On Amavasya (New Moon Day)
  • During Pitru Paksha, a 16-day period meant for ancestors
  • Or as advised by your family pandit or astrologer

Traditionally, it is done by the male heir. However, if there’s no male heir, or if a woman feels emotionally and spiritually called to do it—she can perform it with full devotion, and we support it.

It’s okay. The sankalp can be made with honest intention. Vedic rituals honor the emotion behind it just as much as the detail.

Absolutely. At Moksh Dham, we offer free Shraddha and Tarpan rituals for families who are going through financial hardship. Everything from samagri to pandit seva is taken care of—with full devotion.
